Art materials, such as pencils, markers, construction paper, tissue paper,
paper plates, crepe paper streamers, crayons, and glue
Instructions
1. Prior to the activity, glue pictures of baby animals and mother animals on 4" x 6" (10 cm x 15 cm) cards. Make an even number of cards. (For each set, glue a picture of a baby animal on one card and its mother on another card.)2. Introduce this activity by reading Big Red Barn to the children.3. Show the children the cards of the animal babies and mothers and discuss them.4. Randomly distribute a card to each child, face down. Make sure that one child gets an animal baby and another gets its mother. If there are an uneven number of children, give yourself or another adult one of the cards.5. Encourage the children to try and find the person who has the matching card to their card. When they have found their partner, ask them to indicate this by sitting down.6. When all the children are seated, the pairs of children can each have a turn to show and identify the animal and baby on their cards.More to doMore Science: Share information with the children about each animal, such as where it lives, what it eats, and other interesting facts.Art: Encourage the children to paint a picture of their favorite animal mother and baby.
