Instructions

1. Introduce the children to lemons and limes. Encourage each child to see,
touch, and smell them. Slice a few (adult only) so the children can taste them.
2. As the children explore the limes and lemons, ask them to describe the fruits.
Write down what they say and post the list.
3. Ask the children to guess what might happen if you push the lemon or lime
on the juicer. Encourage some of the children to try it.
4. Present the group with the rebus recipe card and make pink lemonade.
5. Mix lemon or lime juice, sugar, water, ice, and cranberry juice in a pitcher.
Pour the lemonade into cups so the children can taste it.
6. Suggest that the children make more lemonade and pretend to sell it at a
lemonade stand.
7. Encourage the children to decorate a large appliance box using paint and construction
paper. While some children are working on the stand, others can
squeeze lemons to make juice.
8. When the children finish making the stand and lemonade, add a cash box
and play money so they can sell the lemonade.
More to do
Make rebus recipe cards for other foods that children can make and sell with the
lemonade. Good examples are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or cookies.
