Instructions

* April is National Frog Month.
1. Blow up balloons and tie them
closed. Give one to each child.
2. Mix flour and water to make a
watery paste (should have the
consistency of runny white glue).
3. Demonstrate how to dip a paper strip
into the mixture, squeeze off excess
paste, and lay it across balloon.
4. Encourage the children to cover
their balloons in this manner.
Let dry. Pop balloons.
5. Ask the children if they
would like to make a frog
or a toad. Talk about the
differences in these
animals.
6. For those making frogs, have
them paint their balloons
green. Let dry and then apply
glossy sealer (adult only).
7. For those making toads, have them paint their balloons brown. Let dry.
Encourage them to paint over the brown paint with a mixture of glue
and gravel.
8. This activity illustrates the difference between a frog's smooth skin and a
toad's rough skin.
