What to
1. Show the children pictures of
brilliantly colored frogs from
parts of South America and
Australia.
2. Invite the children to cut a piece
of green construction paper the
same size as the plate.
3. Have them fold their paper
plate and their paper in half,
then cut along the fold on the
green paper. Set one of the
halves aside for later and ask
the children to glue the other
onto the underside of the folded
plate; have them apply glue
only to the outside edges, leaving
a pocket between the plate and the paper.
4. Help the children cut a piece of white paper so it is the same size as the top half of the plate.
Show them how to glue it to the plate, again applying glue only to the outside edges so you
leave a pocket for the children's fingers.
5. Invite the children to paint the frog in the brilliant colors and patterns of frogs from other parts
of the world. Let the paint dry.
6. Meanwhile, help the children cut eye shapes out of the remaining green paper. Fold the bottom
edge of each eye and ask the children to glue the eyes to their frog. Have them paint the coloring
of the frog's eyes.
7. Help the children cut thin strips from red paper for the frog's tongue. Show the children how to
wrap the strip around a pencil, then remove the pencil, curling the paper. Have them glue the
strip to the back of the frog's mouth.
8. When the glue dries, invite the children to insert their thumb in the lower pocket and their
other fingers in the upper pocket to manipulate their frog.
