Instructions
1. With the children, look at and discuss the "Gingerbread People" in various
Gingerbread books.
2. Give each child a gingerbread person outline.
3. Ask each child to look in a mirror and identify his hair color, eye color, and
facial parts.
4. Encourage the children to decorate their gingerbread outlines to reflect themselves.
Encourage them to color their outlines using markers that match their
skin tone, hair, and eyes.
5. They can also glue on beads or buttons to make eyes and yarn to make hair.
6. Encourage the children to decorate the body in their favorite colors. If desired,
they can sprinkle glitter on the body too. Some children like to print the
initial of their first name on the body.
7. After the gingerbread people are dry, glue them to a large cookie jar shape.
8. Hang the cookie jar on a wall or bulletin board. Encourage the children to
compare and contrast their gingerbread people.
More to do
Language: Encourage the children to verbalize what they are doing as they
create their gingerbread people. They can also make up stories about their gingerbread
person.
Snack: Make gingerbread cookies or sugar cookies in people shapes. Let the children
decorate them and share them with each other.
