Instructions

What to do
1. Tell the children they are going to make an animal puppet from paper plates.
2. Invite the children to decide what kind of animal they want to make.
3. Give the children construction paper and paper plates.
4. Tell them they can make eyes out of the green, white, and black construction paper, and a
tongue from red construction paper.
5. For each set of plates, cut one plate in half. Staple the edges of the plates together, then fold in
half so the plate becomes an animal mouth.
6. The children can then paint the plates.
7. When the paint dries, have the children glue on the eyes and tongue. If the animal is a frog, glue
a plastic or paper fly on the tongue.
8. The child places her hand in the plates to make the mouth open and close. The child's thumb
goes in the bottom slot and the fingers go into the top slot.
9. Invite the children to name their animal puppets.
