Materials
Small chairs, one for each child
Instructions
1. On a nice day, plan a picnic on the playground.
2. Prepare a snack that travels easily, such as water in plastic bottles or
individual juice packs and animal crackers or cheerios.
3. Ask the children to help gather mats, pack the snack in a basket or bag, and
collect books to read.
4. Go to the playground and throw blankets over playground equipment, such
as a slide or monkey bars. This will make a tent so the children can read in
the shade.
5. Put the mats in a circle on the ground and eat the snack. Then tell stories and
read books together.
6. Ask the children to help pick up.
