Instructions

1. Display a real telephone and talk to the children about why it is important for them to learntheir phone number. Explain how to dial 911 in emergency situations.

2. Give each child an index card and tell him to take it home and bring it back with his nameand phone number written neatly on one side. Encourage the children to ask for a parent'shelp when doing their card.

3. When all the cards have been returned, combine them to make a book. Punch holes alongone edge and insert fasteners.

4. Place the book in the house center with one or more real phones (not hooked up).Encourage the children to dial their own phone numbers as part of their play.More to doArt: The children could make and decorate individual phone books using the telephonenumbers of the other children.
