1. Before leaving the room, explain how to look for signs of spring. Provide
magnifying glasses and binoculars as helpful tools. Tell them you will
have a bag available if they want to collect objects on the walk.
2. Talk about all of their senses. Tell them to be aware of their senses on the
walk, and that upon returning from the walk, they will make a group
sensory story.
3. Take a nature walk with the children.
4. Upon returning from the walk, encourage the children to tell stories
about what they saw, smelled, heard, and so on. Write down all the
information as the children tell it.
5. Read the story back to the children. Ask if there is anything else they
want to add.
6. Encourage the children to draw pictures to illustrate their stories.
7. Post the group story on the wall and surround it with children's
springtime art and collected nature items.
