Instructions

1. Read the book The Secret Birthday Message.
2. Staple together a few pieces of construction paper to make a book. Make
one for each child in the class.
3. Encourage the children to cut out shapes to use as part of their secret
messages. They can choose to make the surprise at the end a birthday
present or something else.
4. Help each child write a note at the beginning of the book that will lead the
reader to a surprise.
Tip: The class can make one book, or groups of children can work on a book. It
may be helpful to have volunteer helpers from the upper grades or parents to
help the children make the books.
