Instructions

1. Before doing this activity, make sure to spray cattails with shellac (adult only)
to keep them from breaking open. Let them dry.
2. On a rainy day when you have a few extra moments, encourage the children
to roll the cattails in tempera paint and create designs with them on paper.
You will be amazed at the children's creativity.
3. After the project, wash the cattails immediately and let them dry to use on
another day.
4. Use other materials such as pinecones, toilet paper tubes, or rolling pins if
you cannot use cattails.
More to do Holidays: Do this activity around the 4th of July using red and blue paint.
Children can make "fireworks" with them and add glitter to enhance this effect.
