Instructions
1. Set up a small table with chairs and mirrors. Place a plastic dishpan, small
bottle of soap or bar of soap, and small water pitcher on a large tray. Put the
tray on the table.
2. Ask the child to pour water into the pan. The child can dip the soap into the
water, or wet his hands, hold one hand under the spout of the dispenser, and
press with the other hand to get some soap.
3. Encourage the child to wash his hands, circling each finger. When finished, he
can spread his fingers apart and place his hands in the water.
4. The child picks up a paper towel and carefully dries each finger, palms, and
backs of hands. Let the child carry the pan to the sink and pour out the
water.
5. This activity provides an opportunity to teach vocabulary, such as thumb,
finger, wrist, knuckle, germs and so on. It also encourages children to wash
carefully.
