Materials
- "There Was an Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe" nursery rhyme
- card stock
- hole punch
- markers
- shoelaces
What to do
1. Beforehand, draw an outline of a pair of shoes (from the top view) and cut it out. Trace the shoe pattern on card stock, one for each child. Pre-punch shoelace holes in each shoe.
2. Read the nursery rhyme aloud. Brainstorm what it would be like to live in a shoe. Ask the children to think of other unusual houses to live in.
3. Give each child a shoe outline. Ask the children to color them.
4. Pass out the shoelaces. Working with a few children at a time, show them how to lace and tie the shoes.
Tip: Keep some of the shoes in a learning center for the children to practice on.
