Materials
1. To capture the children's attention, chant the following. Soon all the
children will be participating.
If you're listening to me touch your head.
If you're listening to me touch your head, touch your foot.
If you're listening to me touch your head, touch your foot, touch your nose.
2. Continue to add other body parts until all the children are
participating. This is great to use when teaching the children about the
parts of the body.
Instructions
1. Put out Styrofoam. You can use one large piece for the group or smaller
pieces for individuals.
2. Demonstrate how to hammer the crayons or markers into the
Styrofoam. Start by holding a crayon or marker in one hand and tapping
it with the hammer until it can stand on its own. Take your supporting
hand away and hammer the crayon or marker the rest of the way in.
3. If available, let children wear safety goggles.
More to do Math: Cover the surfaces of different Styrofoam pieces with construction
paper or tempera paint mixed with glue (to help the paint adhere). Ask
the children to sort the different colors of crayons or markers to match the
Styrofoam pieces.
