Instructions

1. Engage the children in a
discussion about the ocean. Ask
the children to name various
creatures that live in the sea.
2. Talk with the children about
how important it is to care for
the ocean, so the creatures in
the ocean can thrive.
3. Teach the children the
following original rhyme:
I Like the Ocean by Mary J. Murray
I like the ocean; I help keep it big and blue.
I like the ocean, how about you?
4. Each time the children chant the word "you," the child holding the beanbag
tosses it to a different child.
5. The child who catches the beanbag responds by naming a sea creature.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children recite the poem? How easily do they learn the words?
* Can the children name a sea creature when they catch the beanbag?
