Construction paper

Scissors

Poster board patterns, optional

Pitcher

Water

Blue food coloring

8 or 10 oz. (250 or 300 m

L) plastic bottles with screw-on caps

Tiny seashells

Gold glitter

Waterproof tape

1. Ahead of time, cut fish and sea plants or animals from construction paper. Provide some patterns
for older children to trace and cut, if you choose.
2. Fill a large pitcher with water and add a few drops of blue food coloring, then stir.
3. Fill each child's bottle, refilling the pitcher as needed.
4. Help the children put the shapes and seashells into the bottle and sprinkle glitter into the
water.
5. Replace the cap on the bottle and secure the cap with tape, then tell the children to give their
bottles a shake.
Enjoy watching the fish swim and seashells tumble and toss in the waves.

More art: Paint seashells and use as paperweights or hanging ornaments.
Sand and water table: Bury seashells and plastic sand creatures in the sand before the children
arrive.
Science: Decorate the room with models of undersea creatures and bring in seashells for the children
to touch and examine.
