Instructions

1. Ahead of time, decide on an object that the children can imagine their mats
are during naptime. Choose something that they can imagine is gently
carrying them while they sleep, such as a boat, cloud, hot air balloon,
swinging hammock, and so on.
2. Choose music or a meditation tape that will match the chosen item (such as a
babbling brook sound if they are going to imagine their mat is a boat).
3. As the children are settling down for nap, introduce the "Restful Ride" of the
day or week. Give it a clever name such as "soaring sleepers," "float your
boat," "cling to your cloud," "hanging in your hammock," and so on.
4. Begin the music or tape and encourage the children to let their imaginations
go!
More to do
Art: For non-nappers or early risers, have paper and markers available.
Encourage them to draw a picture of where they will go on their "Restful Ride."
When they are finished, they can dictate a story as you write it down. Share the
stories with the class and display them.
