Instructions
1. After the children are settled, read to them from a chapter book. Remember
that you are trying to put the children to sleep, so don't read with drama or
excitement. This works best when you read in a monotone voice.
2. If at all possible, choose a book without pictures, or make a practice of
showing the children the pictures before you start reading! (If the children
find out later that there are pictures, they won't be happy!)
3. Good choices include Beverly Cleary books, Laura Ingalls Wilder books, Black
Stallion books, Anna Sewell's Black Beauty and even The Hobbit! If you read A
Cricket in Times Square by George Selden, it's fun to play some of the music
mentioned in the book!
