Instructions

1. In advance, make a large tree using various shades of green construction paper for the leaves of the tree and dark brown paper for the trunk and branches. The tree should be the size of the poster board.

2. Glue the tree to the poster board and laminate for durability.

3. Cut out red and green apples (the size of golf balls) from red and green paper. Laminate apples for longevity and add Velcro to the back.

4. Attach 20 pieces of Velcro throughout the leaves of the tree.

5. Cut out two sets of 2" numerals (0 to 10 or 0 to 20) from foam sheets or, if available, use purchased foam numerals.

6. Seal the envelope shut and cut in half. Laminate and slit the side open to form a pocket. Attach the pocket to the trunk of the tree using Velcro.

7. During group time, read Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3.

8. After reading the story, display the poster board tree and foam numerals. Explain to the children that they are going to count the apples on the tree.
