Instructions

During the year, take a week to focus on one number at a time. During the week, put out many different activities to reinforce the chosen number. Talk about the number each day at circle time, and set up any of the following activities during center time:* Fill a shallow tray with cornmeal or sand and ask the children to use their fingers to draw the number of the week in the cornmeal.* Provide a collection of small die-cuts or stickers and ask the children to count out the number of the week and put the stickers on a piece of paper. Make the pages into a book, if desired.* Put small items in the sand table and ask the children to find the number of items that matches the number of the week.* Provide dry-erase markers and a dry-erase board and invite the children to practice writing the number of the week.* Get out all your number books at a transition time and ask the children to find the number of the week in the books.* For older children, put small items such as buttons in a plastic sandwich bag that equal the number of the week. Put a piece of tape down the middle of the bag and talk about groups of numbers that add up to the number of the week.
