Instructions

* Punch two holes in each number card and string strands of yarn through the
two holes to create number card necklaces.
What to Do
1. Display the step stool at the front of the class.
2. Invite half the children to line up behind the step stool.
3. Hand a number card necklace to each child in line.
4. Invite the children in the "audience" to be ready to announce numbers as their
classmates step up onto the step stool.
5. Invite the first person in line to step up and display their number card
necklace.
6. Listen to the children recite the number aloud in unison.
7. Instruct the child to jump off and return to the end of the line.
8. Repeat the activity several times until the children have jumped at least
three times.
9. Exchange groups of children and repeat the activity again.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Try this activity by asking children to slide down a slide outdoors in place of
jumping from the step stool.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Invite one or two children to wrap the yarn around each necklace as you put
them away into a box. Can the children name each number as they help you?
* Give the children number-card necklaces in random order. Can each child
put the necklaces back in the correct order?
