Learn Every Day About Numbers

Materials

cards, books, or pictures that show a number name or numbers big enough to be easily recognized by the

children (if unavailable, draw on a blackboard or place brightly colored handmade number cards around the room)

Instructions

* Before the children enter the room, place number names and numbers
around the room. Hiding some inside desks or cubbies and playing "Hot and
Cold" are fun too.
What to Do
1. Explain to the children they are going on a "scavenger hunt" to find number
names and numbers.
Note: Children can hunt individually or in teams. Teams usually work well.
2. Children should find all the cards, pictures, and so on, from 1 to 10.
3. Give hints if some of the cards are well hidden.
4. Provide a place where children can line up the numbers and number names in
order.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* It's fun to do this within a certain amount of time. Children love to beat the
clock. It's also best to use only one set of numbers or number names per
team. Or, try designating a day of all "ones" or "twos."
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Can the children recognize numbers and number names by sight?
* Can the children line up the numbers in order from 1 to 10?
