small bag or box

small objects to count

Instructions

As an example for the children, make numbers cards that list the number and
have the same number of dots as well.
What to Do
1. Ask a child to draw out a
number card and name
the number.
2. Ask the rest of the children
to stand and find friends to
make a set of people to
match the number. For
example, if a child draws a
three, the children should
get in groups of three.
When they finish, go from
group to group counting
the sets with the children
in each group.
3. Choose another child to draw out a different number card. Again, ask the
children to make sets to match that number.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Show the children several groups of small objects. Can each child accurately
count the amount of objects?
* Give a child the number cards. Can the child put the cards in the correct
order?
