Instructions

* Write large numbers in various spots on the paved area. Be sure that there is
one of each number for each child.
What to Do
1. Explain to the children that you will call out a
number. When they hear it, they
need to dash to one of those
numbers and stand on it.
But they must wait and not
move until you call the
number.
2. Ask the children who have
found a number to cheer
on and assist those who
are still looking.
3. Encourage the children
to take turns shouting
numbers.

* Use dark chalk colors on light pavement, and vice versa for dark pavement.
* Spread the numbers out sufficiently so children won't collide. You can also
play this game with shapes, letters, or colors.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Can the children find the numbers with little assistance?
* Can the children follow the rules with minimal reminders?
