Instructions

1. Put the materials and ingredients on a table in view of the children. If desired,
cover the table with a red and white checkered tablecloth.
2. Say, "Today we will each have a delicious bowl of something that can be hard
to say. Some people call it "Pasketti Soup' because "Spaghetti' can be a very,
very hard word to pronounce. Why don't you try saying it?"
3. Now tell the children that they will make the soup. Say and do each of the
following steps:
"First I open the cans.
Then I pour the pasta with sauce into the pot.
Next I pour the tomato soup into the pot.
Now I'll add a can of water.
Then I'll stir it all together.
Last, I'll put on the lid and turn on the heat."
(This recipe makes eight four-ounce servings. Increase ingredients as needed.)
4. Warn the children that the pot will soon be HOT. Ask them to stay away from
the soup as it cooks.
5. Read one of the stories as the soup cooks. It simply needs to be heated to a
simmering temperature to blend the ingredients. If the soup heats to a full
boil, be sure to let it cool before serving.
6. Check the soup when you finish the story. Ladle the soup into cups when it's
ready to serve.
7. Excuse the children to wash their hands and then gather at the table for
tasting.
8. Sing the ever-popular "On Top of Spaghetti" song to conclude this activity.
