Instructions

1. Beforehand, make instruction cards by drawing symbols of activities on
index cards (see steps below). Laminate them for durability.
2. Encourage the children to do a variety of camping activities by following the
steps on the instruction cards.
3. Draw a tent on the first card, signaling that the children should put up a tent
or drape blankets over a table. Assist them in putting up the tent. If using a
tent, keep the zipper open.
4. Draw a sleeping bag on the second card. Children should put the sleeping
bag neatly inside the tent.
5. Draw a picnic tablecloth on the third card, and help the children set up a
picnic table with a tablecloth and dishes.
6. The fourth card is a campfire, so children may set up sticks or cardboard
tubes and tissue paper to look like a campfire. Demonstrate how to crumple
newspaper to look like rocks to make a fire ring around the campfire.
7. Draw a pot or pan on the fifth card. Children can pretend to cook dinner over
the fire, and serve it to their friends.
8. On the last card, draw a tape recorder. Encourage children to choose a book
and a tape from pre-recorded camping books, and listen to it while lying on
the sleeping bag.
