Instructions

Copy "Welcome to Our Restaurant" or a similar phrase at the top of the sheets of construction paper.

1. Ask the children about their experiences eating at restaurants in their neighborhood.
2. Ask the children how they chose what they wanted to eat while they were in a restaurant. Talk with the children about menus.
3. Show the children some sample menus, and briefly explain the way they are organized.
4. Set out the materials and invite the children to make their own menus. Ask them what they would want to have on their menu if they ran a restaurant. Ask the children how much they would charge for each item.

To assess the children's learning, consider the following:

*Do the children understand the function that menus serve in a restaurant?
*Were the children able to make basic representations of a menu? Can they explain why they chose to include certain foods and not others?
