Materials
colorful paper plates
1" or wider 2-sided tape
markers
Instructions
* Copy the words of the song "E-A-R-T-H" onto a large sheet of construction
paper.
* From paper, cut out six pages the same length of the backboard but only 1/3 to
1/2 as tall, so they will not cover the words above them.
* Cut out five copies of each of the letters E, A, R, T, and H. Glue each set to
one of the pages, leaving E off the first page, A off the second, R off the third,
and so on. Leave space for the missing letter.
* Bind the pages in order to a piece of cardstock so that you can flip them
down as you go through the song.
* Make a set of manipulative letters that spell out "Earth."
What to Do
1. Sing the following song and ask one child at a time to find the missing letter
and place it on the page using gummy adhesive:
E-A-R-T-H by Jackie Wright
(Tune: "Bingo")
We take care of our planet
And Earth is its name-o.
Please help me spell its name.
Please help me spell its name.
Please help me spell its name.
Earth is its name-o.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Do the children display an interest in the activity?
* Are the children able to find the correct letter and place it where it should go?
