everyday objects, in a variety of shapesInstructions
1. Call the children to circle or group time, and show them your box of objects.
2. Explain that there are shapes all around us, and point
out a few in the classroom.
3. Then, tell the children that you
have more shapes in
your box.
4. Pull the first object out
of the box, and ask the
children if they can
identify its shape.
5. Continue in this
manner until the
children identify all of
the shapes in the box.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Ask the children to recall and describe the shapes of the objects that they saw.
l Send the children on a mission to find other shapes in the classroom. Review
and discuss the shapes that they find.
