Instructions

1. Do this activity when moving to a new activity such as snack or wash time.
String a rope or yarn across a section of the classroom as a "wash line." Be
careful that the children do not get tangled in the rope.
2. Beforehand, cut out articles of clothing from construction paper. On each
piece, write or place a picture instruction such as washing the snack table.
This will be the job that needs to be done. Be sure to keep the instructions
short and simple, and remember this is supposed to be fun.
3. Place the construction paper clothing in a basket ("laundry").
4. Let the children take turns choosing an article of clothing from the basket,
doing the job written on it, and then hanging it on the string with
clothespins.
5. Children then come to snack (or whatever they are transitioning to). Several
children can be working at the same time.
More to do Music: Use some "laundry"-type songs to sing while the children work. For
example, "This Is the Way We Wash Our Clothes" or "Hanging Out the Linen
Clothes" (from American Folk Songs for Children by Ruth C. Seeger).
