Instructions

1. Cut out 6" circles in a variety of colors and laminate them for durability.
Arrange the circles on the floor 12" apart in a circle shape, large enough for
each child to have room to stand on one circle.
2. When the music starts, the children walk from circle to circle. As the music is
playing, the teacher picks up one of the circles. When the music stops, each
child stops on the nearest circle.
3. The child without a circle to stand on leaves the circle to go to the next
activity. Continue the song until all the circles have been picked up.
4. This is a wonderful time to introduce children to a variety of music, such as
classical or folk. As each child leaves the circle, they can choose or be given
an alternate way to exit, such as, "Wow, Andy doesn't have a circle, he gets to
tiptoe all the way to the door" or "Krissy, would you like to hop or crawl over
to get your back pack?" By giving children choices for how they leave the
circle, no one is a "winner" or a "loser."
5. To save time, you can have more than one child leave at a time. For example,
let everyone standing on a red circle leave for the next activity. Instead of
circles, use various shapes and allow everyone on a square to leave the circle,
everyone on a triangle, and so on. Use numbers or letters and allow the
children whose name or age corresponds with the number or letter to leave.
