Tempera paint, (assorted colors)Smocks

Paintbrushes

Plastic wrap

Tape

Instructions

1. Talk to the children about experimenting with other ways to draw or paint besides using hands.Tell them that some artists with disabilities adapt by using other parts of their bodies toaccomplish tasks.

2. Wrap handles of the brushes with plastic wrap and tape to the brushes.

3. Place paper on the table or the easel.

4. Invite the children to hold the brush between their teeth and paint freely at the easel or on thetable.

5. The children can also try holding the paintbrush with their toes and drawing a picture.More to doMore art: Have the children draw or paint with their non-dominant hand. Wear a blindfold andtry to string beads, do a simple puzzle, or write your name.
