Instructions

1. To draw the children's attention and transition them to group or circle time,
start stirring the ladle in a large soup tureen.
2. Sit in a circle around the tureen and say the following sing-song rhyme:
Potatoes and carrots, oop, oop, oop!
What did the cook put into the soup?
3. Go around the circle and give each child a turn to name something that they
would put into the Super-Bowl Soup. Some of their ideas may be outlandish
and that's the fun of it! Continue as time allows.
More to do Literacy: To emphasize the printed word, write down their ideas on a piece of
paper shaped like a potato or carrot and let them add that paper to the tureen.
Music: To emphasize rhythm, invite hand-clapping, finger snapping, and toe
tapping motions.
