Materials

Gray clay or playdough

Coffee can or similar lids

Store-bought toothpick flags

Glue

Shoe from 11" (28 cm) male fashion doll or army character

Marbles

Flat cardboard squares

Instructions

1. Have the children press clay or playdough into the lid of a coffee can.

2. When they are done, have the children press a flag into the clay. It might be necessary to add adot of glue to the bottom of the toothpick.

3. Have the children make footprints in the clay using the doll shoe. Have them create the appearanceof craters by pressing a marble into the clay. Set the moon replica aside to dry.

4. When the project is dry, ask the children to gently remove the clay from the lid and place it on asmall square of cardboard.

5. Label the project with the date of the first moon landing, July 20, 1969.More to doMore art: Create a mobile with balls or flat circles representing the Earth, sun, and moon.
