Instructions
1. Prior to this activity, paint the lids of baby food jars with blue spray paint
(adult only).
2. Read The Seashore Book by Charlotte Zolotow with the class. Discuss what
items are found on the beach and ask children about their own beach
experiences.
3. Give each child a jar and a painted lid.
4. Put out an assortment of shells. Ask the children to choose shells and put
them into their Seashore Sand Globe.
5. Help the children pour 1/4 cup (60 g) dry sand into their jars on top of the
shells.
6. Put a small amount of hot glue around the inside edge of the jar lid (adult
only). Screw the lid on the jar and turn the jar upside down so the Sand
Globe is resting upside down. The lid becomes the base of the Sand Globe.
More to do

groups of one through ten.
