Materials

Winter mittens or oven mitts

Yarn, buttons, felt scraps, pompoms, rickrack, and other notions and trimming

Scissors

Glue

Fabric paint

Glue gun

Instructions

What to do
1. Invite the children to decorate a mitt or mitten with the various sewing notions and fabric
paint.
2. Help the children glue the decorations on; afterward, secure the decorations to the mitten with
a glue gun, reminding the children that only an adult may touch the glue gun.
3. If they choose, invite the children to create a second character on the other side of the mitten,
to be worn on their opposite hand.
