Materials

four different

plastic shapes;

circle, square,

rectangle,

triangle

chair

small basket

Instructions

l Hang or display a large mirror on a wall in the classroom.
l Arrange a chair so that it faces the mirror and is 1' to 2' away from the mirror.
l Place the shapes in the basket and place it on the floor between the mirror
and the chair.
What to Do
1. Ask one child to sit in the chair facing the mirror and hold the basket on her
lap.
2. Encourage the child to remove a shape from the basket and identify it.
3. Invite the child to talk about the shape as she holds it in her hands, feeling the
various corners and sides. Have the child to look in the mirror as she speaks.
4. Have the child repeat the activity for each shape in the basket.

Assessment
