Materials
clean milk bottle lids in a variety of colors
Instructions
1. Talk with the children about the importance of the sun.
2. Explain how it helps everything to grow, from trees to flowers to the food they
eat. Talk about how the sun gives off sunbeams that travel through space, and
help all things in nature to grow. Point out that without the sun, there would
be nothing to eat.
3. Explain that for snack the children
will be making edible suns.
4. Give each child a pineapple ring
or a circular slice of banana in its
peel, and several thin strips of
yellow pepper.
5. Ask the children to describe the
sun. Ask them to talk about how
these foods resemble the sun.
6. Invite the children to create suns
on their plates, using the bananas
or pineapples as the suns, and the
pepper strips as sunrays.
7. Encourage the children to eat
their suns, piece by piece.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Ask the children what the sun does to help food grow?
