Materials

Large box (the boxes that reams of paper come in with lids are good)

Construction paper

Markers or crayons

Glue

Scissors

Stuffed panda bear (or any animal character)

Instructions

1. In advance, take a picture of each child in the class.
2. After the pictures are developed, trace a small trumpet onto paper, one for
each child. Cut out each trumpet to fit the face of the child. (See illustration
on following page.)
3. Glue each child's photo to a trumpet and write his name underneath.
4. Laminate the trumpets or cover them with clear contact paper. Place Velcro
on the back of each trumpet.
5. Cut out a large soldier blowing on a large trumpet with a banner hanging
down. Write the words, "Announcing the Arrival of..." at the top.
6. Attach Velcro to the banner.
7. Hang this on your classroom door. Ask the children to Velcro their trumpet to
the banner when they arrive in the morning.
8. This is a great way to take attendance and acknowledge a child's presence.
