Materials

rectangular blocks (same size)classroom objects including a table

Instructions

1. Gather a large number of identical rectangular blocks and use them to measure the perimeter of a classroom object.

2. Explain to the children what the word perimeter means (the boundary of a closed plane object).

3. Turn a table upside down on the floor and measure its perimeter by placing blocks end to end around the entire table.

4. Together count the total number of blocks.

5. Ask the children what other perimeters they could measure and invite them to take measurements.
