Materials
Carpet tube (check rug stores for tubes that rugs are rolled on)
White paint and paintbrush
Christmas tree stand
8 satin ribbons about 2" wide
or crepe paper the same size
Duct tape
Instructions
1. Cut out or draw pictures of tools, trucks, clothing a construction worker
wears, or things one can build.
2. Glue each picture inside a file folder.
3. Cut three or four openings into the front cover of each folder to make peep
holes. Only cut around three sides to keep the flap in place so the children
can't see the whole picture.
4. Hold up a closed file folder and give hints about the picture. Open one flap
so the children get a glimpse of what the picture is inside the folder. Continue
giving hints and opening more flaps until they can guess what the picture is. If
the children are unable to guess, then show them the picture.
More to do
Ask a parent to bring in various types of tools and tell the children how they are
used. Have a supply of wood handy so the children can use the tools to build
small structures.
Art: Collect old nuts, bolts, screws, and washers. Encourage the children to glue
them onto cardboard to make structures and designs. This is a great activity
because the children can write their names, stack or build something, or just
make a design.
