Paper plates

Construction paper

Feathers

Beads

Craft sticks

Glue

Tissue paper

Crepe paper

Instructions

1. Read a book or show pictures to children to get them thinking about different cultures.

2. Let children design a mask using paper plates (grocery bags work, too).

3. Use crepe paper for streamers or decoration.

4. Cut out construction paper for eyes, mouth, nose, etc.

5. Let children create their own masks using the above materials. You may tie a string around theback, or they may tape a craft stick on the back of the paper plate and hold it up in front ofthem. If using a paper bag, cut out the eyes and mouth and place the bag over the head.More to doDramatic play: Invite the children dress up in "costumes" from other cultures.Music and movement: Let the children create a dance set to music or make up their own music.Use crepe paper streamers or feathers to create flow of movement.Snack: Use any recipe from Kids Around the World Cookbook by Deri Robins.
