Instructions

1. Have the children trace a pumpkin pattern onto paper and cut it out.
2. Ask the first child to place their pumpkin shape into the box and drop a marble into the orange
or yellow paint.
3. Invite the child to rock the box back and forth, rolling the marble across their paper, then repeat
the process with the second color. When she is finished, ask the next child to take a turn.
4. Dry the paintings thoroughly, then punch two holes in the top of the pumpkin near the stem.
Show the children how to slip a pipe cleaner through the holes and twist the ends so they
resemble a curly pumpkin vine.
5. Hang the pumpkins on mural paper or a bulletin board.
More to do
Language: Ask the children to describe a pumpkin and write their responses on paper shaped
like a pumpkin.
Math: Measure pumpkins using a length of yarn. Estimate the number of seeds inside a pumpkin,
then count them.
More art: Paint a mural of a pumpkin patch or other fall scenes.
Science: Visit a pumpkin patch to see the stages of growth of a pumpkin. Pick a pumpkin from
the vine to bring to the classroom.
