Real quilt or picture of a quilt
old wallpaper sample books scissors hole punch yarn masking tapeInstructions
1. Show the children a real quilt. Talk about how it was made, and encourage
them to look at it closely and touch it. If you don't have a real quilt available,
show them a picture of a quilt.
2. Ask the children to sit at a table. Let them cut out a few pages of wallpaper
to use for their own "quilt."
3. Demonstrate how to punch holes around the edges of each page of
wallpaper. Help them as needed.
4. Give each child a long piece of yarn with masking tape around one end (this
will make it easier for the children to thread it through the holes).
5. Demonstrate how to sew two of the pages together. Encourage them to try.
6. When everyone is done sewing, sew all of the children's pages together to
make one big quilt.
7. Display it in the classroom.
