Instructions
1. Take photos of the flowers in your playground garden. Take one photo of
each type of flower.
2. Tape each photo to a piece of oaktag, leaving some space below the picture
for text.
3. Underneath each flower photo, print the flower's common name.
4. Continue in this manner until you have created a page for each flower photo.
5. Create a cover with a title such as, "Our Flowers."
6. Punch three holes in the left edge of the cover and each page.
7. Thread yarn or heavy string through the holes to bind the book together.
8. Take your flower identification book outside. The children can use it to aid
them as they identify familiar flowers on the playground.
Art: Encourage the children to draw flowers on construction paper. Also make a
copy of each flower photograph. Glue or tape the photos and pictures on the
wall to create a garden scene.
Literacy: Ask the children what they think about each flower. Choose a few
statements about each flower and print them underneath that flower in the book.
Make sure to reference the children whose quote you use, such as "Jason thinks
paper whites are as white as paper."
