Instructions
1. Do the following fingerplay with the children. Repeat it two or three times, so children are comfortable with it.Seven Little MiceSeven little mouse tails (show seven fingers)Sticking up so high, (seven fingers raised high)One mouse sits (lower one finger)And six go by. (wave six fingers)Six sets of whiskers (run a finger horizontally under your nose)Wiggling to and fro, (wiggle six fingers)One mouse stops, (lower one finger)Leaving five to go. (show five fingers)Five little bodiesCreeping on the ice, (creep fingers of right hand over horizontal left arm)One mouse slips away (slide one finger down the arm)From four other mice. (show four fingers)Four pairs of big ears (place spread out hands on either side of head)Listening for a sound, (cup hand to one ear)Three mice go ahead, (show three fingers)One turns around. (show one finger, hide it behind your back)Three sets of tiny paws, (show three fingers)Dancing in the dew, (lightly bounce fingers of right hand on horizontal left arm)One mouse gets tired (show one finger and yawn)And then there are two. After the children have learned the fingerplay, give seven children each a felt mouse.
3. Read the book Seven Blind Mice to the children. As you read the story, the children place the colored felt mouse that corresponds to the one you are reading about on the flannel board.
4. Before you reveal what the mice have been climbing on, let the children guess.
5. Finish the story, revealing that the mice have been climbing on an elephant.
