Materials

2 empty 1-quart (1 L) milk cartons

Glue

Paper and marker or drawing of the life cycle of a frog

Chips or markers of some sort

Contact paper

Instructions

1. Cut the tops off of both milk cartons. The cut should be made as high up as the bottom is long so that all sides are the same length.

2. Fit the two bottoms together to form a cube. One open end should slide into the other.

3. Draw six stages of a frog's life. Each picture should be the same size as one side of your cube and should be in a row on one sheet of paper. Repeat this until you have five sets of pictures, illustrating egg, tadpole, tadpole with two legs, tadpole with four legs, tadpole with no tail, frog.

4. Cut one set apart and glue one picture to each side of your cube. You now have a die for your game. Cover your die and the four remaining strips of pictures with contact paper for durability.

5. Each child places a life cycle strip in front of her. Going around the table taking turns, the children roll the die and place a marker on the corresponding picture on their life cycle strip. The first child to cover all the pictures on her strip wins.More to doMath: You can write numbers by the pictures on the life cycle strip and use a real die. The children must then count the dots on the die and match them to the correct number. This game would be only for those children who have a good grasp of counting.
