Instructions

1. Introduce the word "science" to the children and talk about how science is "seeing what happens."2. Explain the following steps of science, and write them out or use picture symbols if possible:ASK What will happen if . . .GUESS I think this will happen . . .TRY Test to see if your guess is what really happens.ANSWER This is what happened.

3. Any simple exploration of the environment can demonstrate the "Let's See What Happens" process. For example:ASK What will happen if I blow on a dandelion?GUESS The flower will bend. The flower will turn. The "fuzzies" will fly off of the flower.TRY The children each blow on a dandelion.ANSWER The children observe the outcome, and use their own words to describe it and compare it to their guesses.

4. Apply the ASK, GUESS, TRY, ANSWER process to all science activities.

5. Remember to address safety. Remind children always to ask a grown-up whether it is okay to try something.More to doMore science: Use the "Let's See What Happens" steps during art and play.
