Materials

Fish shapes cut out of plastic report covers Small tub or pool

Large paper clips A doughnut-shaped magnet attached to yarn

Fishing poles made out of sticks with yarn tied on

Instructions

1. Attach large paper clips to the fish and place the fish in the pool.

2. Let the children "go fishing" with their fishing poles.

3. After the children have gotten the hang of it, throw in a few fish without clips. Be sure to talk about why they can't catch those fish.More to doMore science: Put numbers on the fish. Encourage the children to "fish" for number 3 or number 5. * Put shapes on the fish and ask the children to name each shape as it is caught.
