Instructions
1. Cut out reproductions of artwork from calendars, old books, and so on. Cover
each picture with clear contact paper to preserve it.
2. Attach the pictures to a backdrop suitable to your space, for example, a wall,
poster board, or back of a shelving unit. Place it in the block area.
3. Show the children the pictures and discuss the similarities and differences in
the buildings, vehicles, clothing, and so on. Note the various artistic styles.
4. Use this discussion to introduce new vocabulary, such as "levels," "arch,"
"clapboard," "fire escape," and "skyscrapers."
5. Encourage the children to build a road or structure with blocks using the art
reproductions as inspiration.
